Our Airline
Cerulean
Airlines is a virtual airline that was first conceived over the
summer of 2007 by co-founders Vince Novak and Leonard
Jungck. After getting a small team of people together the
airline was able to commence operations in early fall of the same year.
Cerulean's initial fleet consisted of three McDonnell Douglas MD-83
aircraft Then shortly after Cerlean began regional operations with three Embraer
EMB-120 Brasilias. Cerulean currently serves over 30 destinations
mostly in the Midwest and Southern United States though it is expanding
to serve cities on the west coast and the northeastern United States. Kansas Cty International Airport (ICAO : KMCI) serves as the headquaters and hub of operations for Cerulean Airlines. Kansas City was chosen primarily because of it's central location in the United States making it easy for Cerulean to quickly serve the main population centers of the country at a relatively low cost.
Cerulean Airlines as a virtual airline was founded on the principle of what we like to call a "Low Cost Luxury Carrier (LCLC)" We believe that by making smart business decisions we can provide low cost air travel to both business and pleasure travelers while still providing the amenities and experience that have historicaly made air travel fun and enjoyable. We use real facts and figures to predict where the airline industry is going and where it is today. This information allows us to provide the utmost realism to the FS community and allows our pilots the chance to get a feel for working for a real airline.
While Cerulean strives to have financial realism as part of our operations the staff also recognizes that a VA should be fun as well. For this reason decisions don't always need to be based solely on realism or "the bottom line". Our primary responsibility is to YOU the individual pilot. You are the reason we are here.
Our Staff
Vince Novak
Chief Executive Officer | Co-Founder2007 - Present
Vince Novak, 25, has served as Cerulean's CEO since it's founding in late 2007. Before helping to start Cerulean Vince served first as a pilot then a short stint as the event's coordinator for MetroAir Virtual Airlines.
Vince has been flying the virtual skies since discovering a copy of FS4 on an old Macintosh back in 3rd grade and ever since then he's been hooked. The fact he grew up around Dash8's didn't help.
When not working on Cerulean or his day job Vince enjoys spending time with his wife, swimming, drumming, writing, and (for some reason) contemplating skydiving.
Leonard Jungck
Chief Operating Officer | Co-Founder2007 - Present
Leonard Jungck initially joined Cerulean Airlines as a fleet and branding consultant on loan from Frontier Virtual Airlines, where he served as Chief Operating Officer at the time. It was in this position that Leonard helped narrow down the new airlines fledging fleet choices and designed the initial livery and branding for the airline. When offered the COO post Leonard initially refused due to his commitments at Frontier but when real life circumstances forced him to resign that post he was able to join Cerulean when thing's calmed back down.
Prior to joining Cerulean Airlines Leonard served as the chief Operating Officer for Frontier Virtual Airlines for over four years having risen to the post from his initial appointment as an Assistant Hub Manager. He has also flown for several VA's including MetroAir Virtual, Delta Virtual, and ATA Virtual.
Not only does Leonard spend time in the Pilot's and Executive Chair's. He also sits behind the Controller's chair as a VATSIM C3 Center Controller for Jacksonville Air Route Traffic Control.
When not flying or working Leonard enjoys spending time with his children.
Tom Mierhoff
Chief Financial Officer | Co Founder2007 - Present
Tom's flying career started not on MSFS, but in the Marine Corps as a flight engineer on the KC-130 Battleherks. Many years after leaving the military he picked up a copy of MSFS to show his kids that he still knew how to fly and became hooked. Tom flew for Eastern Virtual Airlines before coming to Cerulean first as a line pilot, then as Chief Financial Officer. His greatest flight sim experience is when he got to fly a full-motion 747-200 flight simulator at one of the major carrier's training center.
When he is not knee deep in spreadsheets and load factor reports from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Tom is a designated supervisor of locomotive engineers and trainmaster for a Class 1 railroad. He enjoys spending time with his 3 children, playing games and running steam excursion trains.
Tyler Hartmann
Director of Personnel | Co-Founder2008 - Present
Tyler Hartmann has been involved with the flight sim scene since FS98, yet he is relatively new to the VA scene. In October 2006 Tyler discovered the VA list on AVSIM and joined MetroAir as his first VA. There he met future Cerulean staff members Leonard Jungck and Vince Novak and formed a friendship. When Cerulean started Tyler signed up as a pilot and after a period of short growth accepted the position as KMCI Station Manager. Later that year as Cerulean Airlines grew he was offered and accepted the postion of Director of Personel which he holds today.
When not flying or working on other projects Tyler can be found in high school or doing the dreaded homework. He also enjoys building a model railroads with his father in their pole barn. Tyler aspires to be a commercial airline pilot and hopes to attend University of North Dakota Aerospace in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
